Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth;
give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

the gift of the moment

yesterday is history
tomorrow a mystery
but today is a gift
that's why it's called the present

I have to admit, I always thought this saying was a little silly; the play on words being borrowed wit from the past. But for all it make lack in intelligent wording, it contains this important truth: today is a gift.  Yesterday, the past, is gone.  We can't change what happened then (as often as we wish we could), and tomorrow is beyond our grasp, but we do have this moment - today - to do and to be.
So often (and I'm sure everyone is guilty of this) I get so caught up in what should be happening, or working toward some goal that I totally miss what God had for right now.  Many, many of my favorite times with Him came from my willingness to slow down, and seek Him in the moment. The story of Mary and Martha is a popular example: Martha was so busy trying to do something special for Jesus that she missed Him; the gift of time spent with Him and knowing Him better.  Granted, eating is important, but Martha would not always have opportunities to see Jesus.  His gift was a moment to be with her.
"Seize Life! Eat bread with Gusto, drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes - God takes pleasure in your pleasure! Dress festively every morning.  Don't skimp on colors and scarves.  Relish life with the spouse you love, each and every day of your precarious life.  Each day is God's gift.  It's all you get in exchange for the hard work of staying alive.  Make the most of each one! Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, for there's neither work to do nor thoughts to think in the company of the dead, where you're most certainly headed. "

Draw me closer

"Trust Me, My child," He says. "Trust Me with a fuller abandon than you ever have before.  Trust Me, as minute succeeds minute, every day of your life, for as long as you live.  And if you become conscious of anything hindering our relationship, do not hurt Me by turning away from Me.  Draw all the closer to Me, come, run to Me. Allow Me to hide you, to protect you, even from yourself.  Tell Me your deepest cares, your every trouble.  Trust Me to keep My hand upon you.  I will never leave you.  I will shape you, mold you, and perfect you.  Do not fear, O child of my love, do not fear.  I love you."

Lead me...

What do you want to do with your life?

This question seems to have become a companion over the past several months.

They say that every day is the beginning of the rest of your life…but then there are those times that are more important…the places where decisions are made with effect to change our lives forever.  Although all choices hold this power to some degree, the ones I’m making now seem to have it more than others.

I like to call this place “graduation”; it fits – I’m going to graduate from high school, and possibly from everything I’ve ever known to this point in June.  Everyone is giving me the impression that this is where the rest of my life begins.  This is supposedly where everyone figures out what they are supposed to become and where their life is going to go…and so I keep hearing that question: What do you want to do with your life?

How do you explain to someone that all you want is to follow God, wherever that may lead?  Let’s face it; people don’t really consider that to be a career…or a direction.  But I do…

And sometimes that means trusting that He does have a plan, even if I can’t see it at the moment.

“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you
And not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call
Upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me
And find me when you seek me with all you heart.’”
                                                                          ~Jeremiah 29:11

So here I am, at the beginning of a new year and a new season.  I don’t know what the future holds, or where I’ll be a year from now…but I’m excited to see where God will lead, and the things He will do.  Finding Him is the greatest reward!

As we seek to live the set-apart life, we will nto likely be understood or appreciated by the world around us, often even teh Christian world.  But we are not on this journey alone.  Our Heroic Prince (Jesus Christ) is with us. ... In His presence is the fullness of joy.  Let's live for His applause alone.                                                                                                                          ~Leslie Ludy, Authentic Beauty

This is where the journey begins….
